The new consumption report allows our customers to calculate important usage-based metrics like fuel- or electricity consumption, CO2-emissions or mileage in a quick and user-friendly way.

This article details how the metrics are calculated in the report.

Mileage

The monthly mileage for vehicles is calculated based on mileage entries Avrios gets from the vehicles via fuel invoices, manual input or telematics integrations. As soon as a minimum of two mileages are available, the report will show an average mileage. The calculation is done based on the number of kilometers driven (difference between start and end mileage) and the amount of days between the two mileage entries.

Example:

Mileage 1: 100.000 km on Dec 31st

Mileage 2: 105.000 km on Jan 5th

Number of days between the entries: 5

Kilometers per day: 1000

Result: 1000 km in December, 4000 km in January

Fuel/electricity used

For fuel used, we report two values:

Total fuel/ electricity used (l or kWh)

  • These values are based on the fuel invoices Avrios gets from the fuel card providers. As soon as a minimum of two fill-ups are available, the report will show an average fuel usage.
The calculation is done based on the amount of liters/kWh used and Avrios knows how many liters/kWh were used based on the previous fill-up.

Example:

Fill-up 1: 240l/kWh on Dec 31st

Fill-up 2: 100l/kWh on Jan 5th

Number of days between the entries: 5

Liters/kWh per day: 20

Result: 20l/kWh in December, 80l/kWh January 1st - 5th

Fill-up 3: 50l/kWh on Jan 10th

Number of days between the entries: 5

Liters/kWh per day: 10

Result: 80l/kWh (fill-up 1) + 50l/kWh (fill-up 2) = 130l/kWh for January 1st - 10th.

Average fuel/ electricity used (l/100km or kWh/100km)

Averages are based on both mileages and fuel used.

Example (based on previous):

Mileage for Jan 1st - 5th: 4000km

Fuel used for Jan 1st - Jan 5th: 80l

(80l * 100) / 4000km = 2l/100km or 2kWh/100km

Emissions

For emissions, we report four different values:

Average emissions (specification)

Based on vehicle reference data. Reported as g of CO2 per km.

Total emissions (real)

Calculated by multiplying average specification emissions with the fuel consumption factor (by which factor is the average fuel consumption per 100km higher than specification?) before multiplying with mileage for each vehicle. Reported as total kg of CO2.

Average emissions (real)

Calculated by multiplying average specification emissions with the fuel consumption factor for each vehicle. Reported as g of CO2 per km.

Example:

Average emissions (spec): 145 g/km

Average consumption (spec): 5.5 l/100km

Average consumption (real): 8 l/100km

Fuel consumption factor: 1.45

Mileage: 5000

Total emissions (real): 1.051 kg

Average emissions (real): 210 g/km

Fuel Score

The fuel score shows in which ratio the real average fuel consumption and the average fuel consumption according to specifications are. This is supposed to help fleet managers to identify vehicles whose fuel consumptions deviate a lot.

Example:

Average fuel consumption: 8 l/100km

Average fuel consumption spec: 5 l/100km

Fuel score: 160%

Additionally, the fuel contains categories that make assessing the consumption even easier. The following thresholds apply:

No score: <1%
Low: 1-70%

Normal: 70-170%

High: 170-230%

Very high: > 230%

Requirements and data quality

In order for fill-ups to be considered in the metrics calculation of the report, some requirements for data quality need to be met. In case you are missing data in the report, please check if the requirements are met.

Invoice import

Fuel invoices can only be considered, if they have the status "imported" or "released". In case invoices have the status "imported with errors", the errors need to be fixed before any of the fill-ups from the corresponding invoice are considered. This also means that fill-ups need to be assigned to a vehicle, have a cost type as well as a supported quantity (at this time liters or kWh).

Fuel type

A fuel type needs to be assigned to each vehicle For each vehicle, only fill-ups for the corresponding fuel type will be considered. All other fill-ups with differing fuel types are being ignored.

Support for consumption calculation of two fuel types for hybrid vehicles will be added in a future update. At the moment, only the primary fuel type (gasoline or diesel) is being calculated.
