If you have an old paper licence, you have to put a hologram sticker on your licence. In very few cases, there are drivers who have doubts about this practice on the grounds that it is not legally compliant.
From a legal point of view, affixing the hologram sticker is completely unobjectionable. Even the Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Affairs considers the application of a hologram to be completely unproblematic. Read more here.
